Top 5 Websites To Trade In Your Used iPad

Earlier in October, Apple deputed their new iPad lineup as they introduced the iPad Air and the iPad Mini with Retina Display. The second generation iPad Mini features a 7.9 inch Retina display with a resolution of 2048×1536, a 64-bit A7 processor, M7 motion co-processor, and an upgraded 5-megapixel rear iSight camera. Apple also updated their flagship iPad with the iPad Air which includes many of the same features as the iPad Mini except it has a larger screen size and is 20 percent thinner and 28 percent lighter than the fourth-generation iPad.

Sell Your Old iPad and Upgrade

The Ipad Air is set to be available for purchase in stores on November 1st, and the iPad Mini later in November. Like the iPhone, as the launch date for a new iPad gets closer, the value of older iPads will begin to depreciate rather quickly. If you are planning to upgrade to a new iPad and want to get the most value from your old device, sell it sooner than later. Those trading in their iPad Mini 16GB Wifi may be able to upgrade to the new iPad mini for about [Read more…]

Swappa: An Online Marketplace For Gently Used Cell Phones

Ebay has always been the place to sell your used cell phones through auctions and Buy It Now sales. However, Swappa is a new marketplace where you can buy and sell used mobile devices including cell phones and tablets. Swappa does not feature auctions, but instead features fixed-pricing listings.

Ben Edwards (Swappa founder), originally created the website in 2010 specifically for the Android-user community, but has since expanded it to include all devices such as iPhones and Windows phones. Swappa still features modified phones including jailbroken iPhones and rooted Google phones. In fact, it is the official marketplace for [Read more…]

How To Fix Your Cell Phone If It Gets Wet

I’ve noticed that many of the used cell phones that I’ve sold on Craigslist are bought by people who broke their phone when they accidentally dropped their phone in some form of liquid. Many buyers are in the emergency-I-need-a-phone-ASAP mode and are more likely to pay top dollar for a used phone. I’ve made the most money from people who can’t survive without their iPhone and need a replacement the same day they broke their original phone.

Many people who have submerged their phones in water or any other type of liquid don’t know what to do. Their first instinct is to dry it off with a paper towel and try to turn it on to see if it works. For most people it won’t turn on at all or will turn on for about a second and then immediately shut off. This is the worst thing you can do if your phone gets wet, and I hope you have found and read this article before you do that. If this hasn’t ever happened to you, do yourself a favor and bookmark this page.

Meanwhile, there are other people who have heard a few rumors that putting your phone in a bowl of rice will fix the phone. Although your chances are better if you do this, there is a better alternative that [Read more…]

Best Buy Is Offering $100 Trade-In From October 13th Until October 19th

As a promotional offer, Best Buy announced that they will be accepting smart phone trade-ins when upgrading to a new iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s. From October 13th until October 19th, Best Buy will give you a minimum $100 credit for trading in your old smartphone, good towards the purchase of an iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s. Customers bringing in smartphones in their original packaging or with their original accessories may also see their trade-in values increase. If your smartphone is worth more than the $99 downpayment required for the 16GB iPhone 5c, the retailer will offer a gift card making up the difference, too. The catch appears to be that the gift card you’re awarded for your trade-in must be used to sign up for a two-year contract on either an iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s.

To be eligible for the trade-in program, you must [Read more…]

How To Erase Your iPhone and iPad Before You Sell It

A new phone was just released, and you’re eligible for an upgrade. Of course you’re going to sell your old phone for some extra cash. Or maybe you decided your iPad was too big to travel with so you bought an iPad mini. If you’re no longer going to use your old device, sell it. Check out my resources page for a selection of websites to sell your used cell phones and tablets.

If you are going to sell your used iPhone or tablet, you should delete all of your personal data and preferences and restore it to the default factory settings. Your mobile device will most likely contain all of your saved personal information such as emails, text messages, passwords, pictures, and video. The last thing you want is for the new owner of your used phone to have access to your Facebook account or to see pictures that probably should have been sent using snap chat. You don’t want to hand over all your digital secrets to a stranger. If you are selling your Apple iPhone or iPad, make sure you TURN OFF the ‘Find My iPhone’ feature before you give it to the new owner. If you don’t, they will not be able to activate it without you.

Delete iPad

The buyer is going to want to receive your used phone or tablet just as it comes directly from Apple. The buyer isn’t interested in your customized settings. They don’t want to see your customized wallpaper everyday or have to listen to your music. Not everyone enjoys hearing Miley Cyrus’ top hits.

Selling your device isn’t the only reason to delete all of your data and settings. If you need to send your phone in to Apple for repairs, you may want to remove your personal data. You can always restore the phone’s data when you get it back. Also, if you’re phone isn’t functioning correctly, Apple may [Read more…]

Amazon Trade-In Program Full Review

Just like several other online buyback programs, Amazon allows consumers to trade-in their electronics. A few months ago I reviewed my experience with Gazelle.com, and I figured it was time to test one of their competitors. Amazon offers the same service, you select the phone you want to trade in, Amazon shows you an offer, if you like the offer then you mail them your device.

For my Gazelle experiment, I tested their service with my girlfriend’s old iPhone 4. I didn’t have any extra used iPhones around to use for Amazon so I decided to trade in an iPad 2. I received the iPad a few years ago as a gift but I barely use it. I could see myself using it often if I flew frequently, however I rarely fly when traveling. I use my Macbook Pro at home and my iPhone on the go.

Amazon allows you to trade in all sorts of electronic devices. To begin, go to [Read more…]
